Mechanical Contraptions
I enjoy making things. Over the years I used my library's Maker Space to make a wide variety of projects, often using the laser cutter.
The model Mars Rover in the photo above is one such project. It has a working suspension system that uses the same design (called Rocker and Buggy) as the Curiosity and Opportunity Mars rovers.
Laser Cut Chicken Coop
This was another project I made at the Maker Space (in cooperation with my Mom). We designed the pieces in a vector graphics software then assembled the pieces in 3D in Blender to make sure they fit together properly. This allowed us to get the perfect cut on the first try! We then glued everything together and hand sewed the little chickens (each one was based on one of our six real chickens).
Aikido
For the past 10 years I practiced the peaceful defensive martial art of Ki-Aikido. This long term practice taught me much more than just a martial art — it allowed me to become more confident, persevering, and centered in my actions. I would not be who I am today if it were not for Aikido. I currently practicing for my Black Belt test.
